Valuable Lessons in Dave’s Life Story

Hello GCU!

I wanted to touch on a few things from the Dave Held talk that I felt were necessary to focus in on.

1. Dave attributes his life today to the fact that one doctor told him he needed to see another cardiologist. If Dave did not listen to this doctor and stayed with the Doctor he was comfortable with, I hate to imagine what might have happened. Next time you find yourself in the doctor’s office, remember you are the buyer and the doctor is selling you their practice. You DO NOT have to buy what they are selling if you do not feel comfortable.

2. Another addition to this story is seeking a second opinion whenever you want. Dave met with a cardiologist who told him he could do his bypass surgery minimally invasive. Dave never said this doctor was wrong, but when he went and met with Dr. Oz he had a different game plan. Dave asked Dr. Oz about the minimally invasive approach and Dr. Oz had Dave look down on the floor at the book next to his feet. It was a huge book that was titled “Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery” by Dr. Mehmet Oz. Dr Oz. said the other doctor was not wrong, but let’s just agree to disagree. The man who wrote the book on minimally invasive bypass surgery felt Dave was not a good candidate for that kind of procedure. Lesson learned here is you do not have to trust the first opinion given to you. Find what feels right to you and follow it.

3. Dave spoke about his latest struggle with starting Weight Watchers. Dave’s wife started Weight Watchers and he decided to join her so they could support each other. Dave is struggling with the WW program because he is required to eat way more than he is accustomed to on his new eating lifestyle. He spoke about how he is forcing himself to eat when he is not hungry just because he feels like he is supposed to on that program. I want all of you to know that the way you eat is different from how everyone else needs to eat. Just because WW says to eat this way, does not mean this may be the right program for you. If your body is fighting you, feeling miserable, or telling you NO, listen and do not fight it.

Be Well!
